About the Dolphin Players

A brief history of the Dolphin Players

The Dolphin Players were organized in 1979 with the mission of producing quality theater in an intimate setting.  For the first eight years, we were housed at the On Broadway Theater.  We then moved to the Old City Hall restaurant and then to the Marshfield High School Lab Theater and the Hales Center for the Performing Arts on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus.  We have also produced in a variety of other venues, including both Coos Bay and North Bend city libraries, the Coos Art Museum, the Coos Bay Fire Hall, various locations on the Southwestern campus, and local churches.

In addition to producing hundreds of plays, including classic and contemporary dramas, the Dolphins also sponsor a monthly play reading group and have participated in community fundraisers and telethons.  One of our productions raised over $3,000 for the Women’s Safety and Resource Center.

A Multipurpose Venue

While the primary use for our new building will be producing live theater, the Dolphin Theater will be available for community meetings, musical events, and private parties.  The building is handicapped accessible and offers a kitchen and flexible seating arrangements.  We intend the building to be a cultural and community center for the Empire community, as well as the greater Bay Area.   For more information about use of the facility, please contact  the Theater at 541-808-2611
